Another freezing winter in NYC, it is soooo cold!!! You can feel like a snowman with your hat, scarf, gloves and ear muffs! But you can still be stylish with your down jacket! So the new trendy jackets do they have anything to do with skiing?
If we go back to 1930s and 40s, skiing became really popular in the US and women’s ski clothing continued to be fashionable, but it was also function-able. There was a craze for two-toned ski outfits, with the jacket and trousers being different colors.
As the country left the war years and entered the 1950’s and 60’s, ski wear became tighter and more-form-fitting. Warmer materials began to predominate and the looks became sleeker.
The 1970’s saw the end of wool in ski clothing, as synthetic materials began to become more popular with skiers everywhere. . This was also the first time that ski wear became fashionable enough to wear on the streets.Ski wear crossed over into street wear with quilted nylon ski jackets with zip-off sleeves that converted to vests becoming fashion items.
And today when the weather is cold and you want to be comfy, warm and stylish at the same time, just pick up your down jacket! The good thing you don’t need to hit the slopes afterwards!
